Elisa E. Portz, CMBP, Billing Specialist
Elisa E. Portz graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1985, and received an Associate’s Degree of Liberal Arts from Maplewoods Community College in 1990. She began her career as a Medical Billing Specialist at Freed’s Pharmacy/Omnicare Pharmacy of the Midwest in 1998. Over the course of 10 and half years, Elisa worked her way up from file clerk to DME Billing Specialist. After a downsizing event at Omnicare, Elisa stayed close to the industry with various temp jobs working as a Physical Therapist billing clerk at TLC School, an electronic Medicare Part B billing clerk during flu season at the American Red Cross, and as a Customer Service Rep at Wellness Life Systems. Elisa also worked as a Data Coordination Clerk at Med4Home. After a year and half at Med4Home, Elisa decided to take time off from the workforce. During her hiatus, she volunteered for her church, highlighted by the coordination of the church rummage sale for three years and as co-project manager for a remodeling project. Elisa likes to sew, knit, and has an avid interest in American history. She is member of the church choir for the past 27 years.
Bev was a public school district teacher for 22 years and “retired” in 2013. She taught second grade for eleven years, gifted education for eight years, and remedial reading for three years. She began working for Mid Missouri Rehab Services in the speech department. She quickly discovered, as a retiree, that she missed the sound of children laughing and playing. She began tutoring a dyslexic child two years ago and now substitutes in the public school and enjoys tutoring dyslexic children for Summit Pediatric Therapy.
She returned to finish her college degrees when all three of her children began school. She also has granddaughters who have learning difficulties so has become a serious advocate for learning disabled children.
Dyslexia became an area of interest for her over 30 years ago when her dyslexic, ADHD, and CAPD son entered second grade. He was labeled as lazy, unmotivated, and at-risk by the school. He was put in speech and became a candidate for special education with a 145 intelligence quotient! Later, as a teacher, she saw other smart children be “dumbed down” and fall through the cracks because they couldn’t learn. She wanted to make a difference and see fewer children suffer from handicaps.
In her spare time she likes to work in her flower gardens, a vegetable garden, landscape her yard, enjoy nature, count her blessings, and read.
